Panthers Down WarriorsPosted Tuesday, January 13, 2009 by Brian Cook Portville 69, Salamanca 52
Panthers hit the boards to down Salamanca PORTVILLE ‹ After a long layoff due to two weather cancellations, the Warriors (2-5) got back to work at Portville on Monday night, but the result wasn¹t what coach Brian Koscielniak wanted. The inability to rebound against the Panthers doomed Salamanca as Portville got several good second-chance looks throughout the 69-52 win, good for ³30 points² estimated assistant coach Pete Weishan. Down by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, the Warriors battled back to make it a game. Several times they trimmed the lead to 10, but each time Portville had the answer on the boards. The Panthers featured four players in double figures, paced by Adam Sullivan¹s 18. The game featured the return of sophomore Thomas Williams after missing the last contest, but he couldn¹t get it going early enough to be a factor. Williams had 11 points, while Christian Reiller had a team high 14. Reserve guard Ty Printup saw extensive action for the shorthanded Warriors (the team features just 11 players). He netted five points, and got a reaction from the bench with a three-pointer in the fourth quarter. He also caused a tie-up with a good hustle play, deflecting the ball to Reiller. Printup continued his good showing with a late steal and a strong rebound to take it away from a Panther player.
