Reiller, John lift Warriors to win over Chaut. LakePosted Friday, February 06, 2009 by Brian Cook Reiller, John lift Warriors to win over Chaut. Lake
[ By Brian Cook ] Sports Editor SALAMANCA ‹ The Warriors bounced back from a deflating loss earlier in the week with a win Wednesday night against Chautauqua Lake, flattening the Thunderbirds 70-57 thanks in part to the efforts of freshman Jackson John and teammate Christian Reiller. Coming off a loss where the team allowed 22 fourth quarter points on Tuesday, the second game in two nights proved to be light work for the Red and Gray as they stifled an early T¹bird rally after a slow start. The first quarter yielded just 18 total points. The Warriors exploded for 21 points in each of the next two quarters. After putting together a 15-6 run when the visitors had closed to within two points in the first quarter, John nailed two of his 13 points to end the half with a 31-20 cushion. He also had eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Reiller added 22 points, four assists, and three steals ‹ in part thanks to his aggressive offensive style that sent him to the line for 12 shots ‹ in a game that, while perhaps not fundamentally sound, was a win for the Warriors (5-8). ³A win¹s a win,² agreed coach Brian Koscielniak, who at times appeared frustrated with his team¹s lack of fundamental play. The third quarter saw the lead balloon to 19 points, as John nailed three treys, including back-to-back jumpers from the wing as the defense failed to close in time. Meanwhile, the Warriors also got 16 points from Thomas Williams, who played just three quarters due to illness. Matt DeBoy continued to come into his own with eight points, 12 rebounds and three assists after a double-double performance the previous night. He has 27 rebounds in just the two consecutive games.
